For most readers, the Folger Shakespeare Library translation (1992) of Hamlet is the best place to start: For almost everyone, the Folger is the right Hamlet. It puts the notes on the left-hand page facing the text, so you glance across for a gloss without losing the line — far less intimidating than a page crowded with footnotes. Cheap, clear, and the classroom standard for good reason. This is where I'd start. For most scholarly, consider Arden (3rd series) (2006). For best one-volume scholarly, consider Oxford Shakespeare (1987). For for beginners, consider No Fear Shakespeare (2003). For free, consider Free (public domain) (1623).
